Digital Eskimo is a design agency dedicated to creating innovative sustainable solutions for environmentally and socially minded organisations using Considered Design methods.

Below are examples of projects I’ve worked on.

Milk and Bookies Homepage

Client: Milk and Bookies
Involvement: Graphical optimization and cutting, HTML coding and site maintenance
Website: www.milkandbookies.org

When possible and presented with the opportunity, I love to donate my time and skills to not-for-profit organizations which I believe in, like Milk and Bookies which works to suppy First Book (a nonprofit organization which gives children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books ) with as many book donations as possible while teaching children the importance of giving. I coded the Milk and Bookies site and have committed to making updates as needed.

If you are associated with a not-for-profit organization which could use some help, please email me (rhoda_lazo [at] yahoo [dot] com).

KidsEdge Homepage

Employer: Kidsedge
Role: Full-time Technical Producer

Kidsedge is an educational website for children in the age groups of preschool to kindergarten, grades 1-2, and grades 3-4. This site features over 275 educational games and activities based on the National Education Standards. The main environments, or worlds, were created entirely in Flash. The supporting site pages were for the adults in the child’s life, parents, grandparents and teachers. Most of them were articles based on learning and providing children with the best environments for learning and growing. Part of the site also consisted of an e-commerce portion where we sold educational toys and books for children.

KidsEdge Articles

As a Technical Producer, I assessed, planned and implemented the technical production of web-related partnerships including a co-branded site for America Online, produced all email marketing including monthly newsletter and constantly analyzed and implemented enhancements to the overall product.

KidsEdge Store

KidsEdge Store

The company was sold to LeapFrog in April 2004 and the content now resides on Leapfrog’s site. The articles are accessible to all users but most of the activities and games are only available to registered users.

Disney

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2001

Client: Disney Consumer Products Licensing IT
Role: Web Producer
Website: offline to the public (intranet sites)

At Disney, I implemented functional specification documents for department-wide use. I also instituted a project life-cycle process which included gathering requirements as a team, writing functional specification documents, getting signatures from clients, distributing the functional specifications to team members, building the wire frames in HTML, creating a project plan with milestones and prior to delivery, creating system and user test plans and getting signatures on the user test plans to ensure the correct delivered functionality requirements. I was on contract for six months and worked on two business-to-business online tools. Because these web tools are on Disney’s intranet and extranet, they are unavailable for public viewing, however, following are explanations of each project and screenshots of what was created (please click on the images to launch a click-through of the screenshots):

The Waiver Tracking application served as an online tool to the Disney Licensing Finance group and Disney Licensing lines of business to track and search for waivers of expected revenue from Disney Licensees. Previously, an all-paper transaction was used to request for, track, approve, and deny waivers. The implementation of this project moved all transactions pertaining to waivers online, therefore, enabling quick references, requests and approvals or denials as well as preventing lost documents. The implementation was a success and what previously took a waiver 2 months to request and approve, took only 3 days.

Disney Waiver Tracking

The Flash Forecastapplication served as a tool to the Disney Softlines Finance group to enable key Licensees to enter bi-weekly forecast updates through the extranet site. The Disney Softlines Finance group then used the information entered to analyze the forecast updates giving them the ability to make business decisions based on up-to-date information and identify early trends by comparing the forecast updates against the original forecast submissions. Ultimately, this implementation enabled key licensees to give Disney their bi-weekly flash forecast updates on a timely manner, thus, making it possible for the Disney Softlines Finance group to track the licensee wholesale sales dollar revenue and instantly identify trends and compare forecast information from the original forecast submissions.

Fugu Films Homepage

Client: Media SG, Ltd.
Involvement: Logo and site design, graphic optimization and cutting, HTML coding
Website: currently offline

Fugu Films is a basic e-commerce website. Fugu Films, like all clients, wanted a fully functioning website complete with a shopping cart up within a week. The results? A fully functioning website complete with a shopping cart up within a week. With metaphormula, you get what you want. I created a logo, even though one was not asked for and a complete look and feel followed.
